The Crane (Grus grus) is a migratory bird that breeds in the north of Eurasia and spends the winter in the south of that continent and the north of Africa. It is a tall and large bird, neck and long legs. It presents a plumage of a gray, brownish color and darker in the back.
The lagoon of Gallocanta is the place of the Iberian Peninsula where the greatest number of these birds are concentrated in their migratory movement. During the autumn the cranes of northern Europe arrive en route to warmer lands to spend the winter. In the months of February and March, the same event but in reverse, thousands of these birds are concentrated in this emblematic place to return to the places of reproduction in the Nordic countries.
